Unknown Artist: Classical Study - Standing Male Nude - Late 19th Century

Auktionshaus Rheine, Rheine, DE has recently listed this very nice classical study of a standing male nude in their current auction catalog. The painting is unsigned and dates from the late 19th century from some unknown European School. From the looks of that mottled surface apparently someone thought a nice coat of varnish would enhance the painting. A good conservationist could correct that problem and brighten up that surface by removing that yellowed stain. Still a nicely executed study by some striving late 19th century student.

Richard W. Lange (XIX_XX): Nude Fencer - Bronze ca. 1900

Last night I won the bidding on this nice bronze nude Fencer by the Austrian/German artist Richard W. Lange (XIX_XX). Unfortunately I could find scant little biographic information on the artist. He is a well known sculptor who was active during the last part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. I have seen several of these bronzes and invariably the sword is missing from the composition. I look forward to adding it to my collection.

Female Nude Alla Prima Study: Late 19th Century Unknown Artist

One of my favorite sellers on eBay France has recently listed this beautiful late 19th century study of a female nude. I love an artist who has this kind of control over the medium of oil paints. It is a simple alla prima study but still shows that superb ability of a well trained artist of the 19th century academe.

Victor-Rene Livache (1872-1944)(Atelier Livache): Standing Nude Ephebe

This morning I bought this pencil and gouache study of a nude ephebe (directly below) which comes from the Atelier Livache (Victor-Rene Livache 1872-1944). Livache at one time was the Director of the École régionale des beaux-arts de Rennes (Regional School of Fine Arts in Rennes, France). His studio was responsible for many decorative works including murals, frescoes, and paintings in public buildings throughout France.
