A Gallery in Germany has listed a very nice series of Academic Nude Drawings on paper by the Polish artist Józef Teofil Smoliński (1865 - 1927). I must warn you that in order to afford one of these drawings you must do one or more of several things: (1) Rob a bank, (2) Take out a second mortgage on your home, (3) sell your youngest child at the local slave market, (4) Start a giant Ponzi scheme in China, name it Evergrand 2 and then figure out how to get your ill gotten gains out of China without the CCP discovering what you have been up to, or (5) Clear out your life savings. I have no idea why this Polish artist commands such high prices, then again I just went through sitting fifty miles from the center of a Cat 3 Hurricaine and my head is still spinning. Anyway, they are very nice example of the product of the 19th century academy artistic training. ______________________ Here is a translation of the artist's biography: ______________________ Józef Teofil Smoliński (born 1865 in Hrubieszów; died 1927 in Warsaw) was a Polish painter, art researcher, restorer and collector. He was educated in Warsaw at the drawing school with Wojciech Gerson and in St. Petersburg, probably at the archaeological faculty of the university there. In the 1880s he moved to Lublin, where he also worked with the Lublin Theater, among others. Active as an artist in Warsaw before the 1st World War. Smoliński is known for his portraits and religious compositions (Puławy Church, 1898; Lublin Cathedral, 1899), which have been shown at numerous national exhibitions. ______________________ And here are the works in question: ______________________
