Again we go somewhat off topic with this post but being a painter I just could not resist posting this beautiful work for you. I think it was Mark Twain who said something to the effect that farming was the quickest way to find out if you were a success or making a complete fool of yourself. In the world of art I firmly believe that successfully drawing and painting the human form, in particular portrait painting, will quickly separate the men from the boys. I dearly love a fine portrait and this one is a fine example of late 19th century Academic training. The use of color and those beautiful brush strokes make the subject come alive. It is signed and dated 1888. Unfortunately I could find no biographic information of the artist. It appears to be an oils study on artist board. Enjoy.
