I think most of you know the works of Ludwig von Hofmann (1861-1945) who started his career at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts in 1883 and later studied in Paris at the Academy Julian, and whose works are full of nudes. His work was influenced by the works of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes (1824-1898) and Paul-Albert Besnard (1849-1934). After the war his widow managed to keep the majority of his work out of the hands of the Russians when Germany fell in defeat. I have spent my fun money for the next six months to add this von Hofmann to my collection. I just hope my sons realize the value of the gift I will leave them. Based upon the signature I would estimate this work to be in the 1900-1910 time period of his career.

Just a few examples of his large body of works.
