I had a few minutes today and I thought I would post some of the backlog of academic nudes I have managed to find on various sources on the net. They are all unsigned and originate from various European Art Schools from the mid to late 19th century. Enjoy.

Louis Anquetin (1861–1932)(?): Academic Study of a Standing Male Nude

This beautifully executed academic study of a standing male nude popped up on eBay France this morning. According to the description the seller attributes the canvas to Louis Anquetin (1861-1932) but "without any guarantee." What really interests my eye is that extended unfinished right hand. You can readily see the under drawing on which paints have yet to be applied. Enjoy.

Francois Xavier Bicard (French School) (1880-1933) : Nude Boy Sitting on the Floor Reading

A European seller has recently listed a well executed study of a nude boy sitting on the floor by Francois Xavier Bicard (French School) (1880-1933). Beautiful quality brushwork, superb flesh tones with excellent figural detail (see the hands and feet) in this sensitive study. Unfortunately I could find scant little biographical information but the technique alone speaks for his expertise. Enjoy

Meinhard Jacoby (1873-1956): Academic Nude Studies - Nude Boy in Landscape

A seller in Germany has listed some works by Mainhard Jacoby (1873-1956) in various states of somewhat problematic condition. Works by Jacoby are fairly rare on the market since most of his works are maintained by the artist's family. Jacoby was the son of one of the most important engravers of the mid to late 19th century in Germany. Meinhard Jacoby studied painting and sculpture at the Academies of Berlin, Munich, and Paris. He later taught at the School of Applied Arts in Charlottenburg. He also learned the various techniques of etching and engraving from his father. He traveled to Brazil during the 1920's and the political situation in Germany in 1934 forced his return to Brazil on a permanent basis where he spent his final years.
