This is an interesting find from a European Auction House. If you know the work of Kathe Kollwitz (1867-1945), then you will immediately recognize how unique this intaglio print of an academic nude is. I find her graphic works, although superb in their execution, foreboding and depressive to the point of the contemplation of suicide on the part of the viewer (I may be exaggerating slightly, maybe just wounding yourself, requiring a few stitches). She seems to have been affected by something in her life that brought up an immense amount of angst. Her works are beautiful but I am not sure I could stand having one of her prints hanging on my walls. I do not think in all the books I have browsed, many including her works, that I have ever seen an example of an academic nude done by her. As you can see, she was blessed with a great amount of artistic talent.
